LIVE MASTERCLASS TONIGHT!
Everything I've learnt over 20 years in broadcast journalism as a second-language English speaker
Hello all and apologies for the last-minute email - I’ve been stuck in an airport along with hundreds of thousands of other UK-bound travellers across Europe because of a computer failure of the UK air traffic control system. I’m back home in London now but I really feel for those who are still stranded.
So a quickie to tell you about a Zoom Masterclass I’m holding tonight, Wednesday August 30th, about the challenges of working as a journalist in ‘international’ (ie - English language) journalism. I’ll be in conversation with fellows of the John Schofield Trust and we’ll talk about:
the challenges of broadcasting and reporting in a second-language
the impact of foreign accents
how language is ultimately about culture: you can’t have true diversity and inclusion in a newsroom if everyone sounds the same
It’s free for all subscribers, so REGISTER HERE TO GET THE ZOOM LINK
Hope to see you there!

It was such a honor to join This Masterclass. Thank you so much Barbara for the opportunity. Any Last-minute email from you are more than welcomed especially for events like This.
Thank you so much. It was a fun masterclass! It would be great to do more events like that directly from this platform. I’ll look into ways of doing that
